The objective is to constitute a network of several local ways prolonged by paths. The route envisaged should connect Ypres to the Valley of Somme, passing though the hills of Artois and Cambrésis ; the Hainaut-Thièrache to the Flandre maritime though the intermediary of the mining field and the region of Lille ; the Audomarois to the Côte d'Opale ; the Picardie to the Champagne and Ile-de-France...

The civil sites selected to be reproduced on these itineraries must be articulate around some big poles which serve as reference points, such as the coupole d'Helfaut-Wizernes near Saint-Omer. The military sites should help to support the Defence-Society link by the organisation of cultural ad educative actions, in particular expositions and civil manifestations, proposed by the D.M.P.A ; the citadels of Lille and Arras constitute a emblematic symbol.

The three main paths of memory ( except the one between 1870 and 1871 which will be less developed) will allow to discover sites of a huge diversity connected to the First World war (Vimy, Notre-Dame de Lorette, Thiepval, Rancourt, the park terre-neuvien of Beaumont-Hamel, the museum of Péronne and the one of la Caverne du Dragon, etc?), the second World war (Harnes), the fortifications (ramparts de Quesnoy). The native house of the General de Gaulle in Lille could be a useful link between the two world conflicts, but also between the army and the Resistance.
